Nidos is the national independent guardianship institution in the Netherlands providing guardianship for all unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in the Netherlands. Guardians provide long-term continued care and have responsibility for the mental and physical wellbeing of the child and their development. Nidos guardians take a central role as casemanagers engaging with many actors surrounding unaccompanied children as they generally inform the guardian about any relevant issues in relation to the child. Nidos has the same power and rights as parents hold, giving it the opportuntiy to intervene when the child’s best interest is at stake.
